The power of a playlist

Music has been proven to reduce stress and even ease pain. It can help to evoke memories and stir positive emotions. We here at Positive Caregiving are big proponents of turning up the tunes. Music is a positive way to connect with our care partners, it can help motivate us to complete chores and tasks, and it provides a method to help us transcend simple day-to-day stressors.

What are some songs that just make you feel good? This week challenge yourself to gather 10 – 15 songs to create a playlist for yourself named “My Hug” and play it when you need a pick-me-up. I have curated a list of songs that I find especially soul-satisfying. The songs chosen tend to remind me of gratitude, empathy, forgiveness, love or awe and they ALWAYS have the magical power to make me feel better when I turn them on and turn them up. Feel free to use them all or some of them on your own “My Hug” playlist.

1. Let it Go – James Bay

2. Here Comes the Sun – The Beatles

3. Three Little Birds – Bob Marley & The Wailers

4. Kind and Generous – Natalie Merchant

5. Shake it Off – Taylor Swift

6. Higher Love – Kygo & Whitney Houston

7. Wonderful World – Louis Armstrong

8. Celebrate Me Home – Kenny Loggins

9. As Time Goes By – Rod Stewart & Queen Latifah

10. You Gotta Be – Desiree

11. Happy – Pharell Williams

12. Love is the Seventh Wave – Sting
